It's like I'm 16 again. But without any of the fun.

Holy mother of all things my skin hates me. It's regressed back to that of my teenage self (and let us just be honest here, those were not enjoyable years).

My skin is totally schizophrenic, OK--if I use anti acne face stuff, it dries out and literally peels after like two days, if I use anything else, it freaks the crap out and I have like 10 icky icky mounds of grossness of my face at any given time. And since we know I'm all hippie and flower child like with some things (my love of handmade jewelry not withstanding) I've been using tea tree oil on the death spots because I thought it might work better than some of those expensive things. And my mother, who never had a zit in her life swore by it. Me? I do not. Bring on the chemicals please. (but which ones?! I'm thisclose to just attacking my face with steel wool) (only not, because that would hurt like hell)

So while I try with every ounce of my being to keep my paws off my face (gah! And then I'll end up with more scars!) please, please, please tell me, how to fix this?

We all know I'm on a constant quest to look younger, but, rather seriously, this is not what I meant (are you listening Universe??). I meant like, no more wrinkles. Not looking like a hormonal teenager, thanks.

Ugh.

Perhaps I should create a more specific prayer rather than 'looking younger'? Perhaps this is my punishment for being vain?

Just sent you a DM via Twitter - read the reviews on the products I sent you - I've had NO dryness whatsover. I'm going to do a post about them, but them rock my world right now.

I love love love the neutrogena grapefruit scrub. It has just enough chemicals in it to keep everything balanced, but not enough to dry me out like crazy. Dang sensitive skin!

Please, just back away from the steel wool. You are too pretty to play with that fire!

I love Queen Helene Mint Julep masks. You can get it at Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc. My skin's been really weird since becoming prego, and this makes it feel better.

I have similar issues. I was told I'd outgrow them, and I haven't. And I'm pissed. I don't understand!

I've suffered from "adult acne" since graduating from HS...the only thing that has controlled the acne for me is topical prescriptions from my dermatologist. Waited way to long to start but a combo of benzaclin and differin have really worked. I DID have a lot of dryness but my skin adapted over time.
What I did recently learn is that any "acne fighting" cleansers were actually worse - they negated the medicine and then I had dry and pimple prone skin...so I stick with Purpose cleanser and a moisturizer from Darphin. In the winter when it's even dryer I also use a hydrating serum under moisturizer.

I never had a problem with my skin until about 5 years ago. I would breakout by my ears and along my jawline (hello, dirty phone?). I tried every facewash possible but because my face is really sensitive and I have a horrible reaction to salicylic acid, I couldn't use a lot of them.
I went to a dermatologist who prescribed an oral antibiotic called Minocin (generic: minocycline). About a week after taking just HALF of what he prescribed each day, I haven't had a single break out in 6 months. NOT ONE. I take it once a day before bed (it makes me very dizzy if I take it during the day). It might be worth it for you to see a dermatologist and ask if it would work for you too.

anything that has hydrogen peroxide as an ingredient makes my skin happy (oh philiosophy on a clear day peroxide cream, you are missed). It depends on what active ingredient works best with your skin (peroxide, glycolic, salyic etc). I've had good luck with Neutrogena products and the Lush dark angels scrub.

I like the Burts Bee's acne products- as a fellow hippie you will like the all natural aspect! I have adult acne out the wazoo- and it has totally helped (better than the prescription facewash my doctor gave me IMHO).

I've been having the same problem, and I realized that it actually isn't my face wash that's the problem..it's sweat! ( I know...gross) It seems that I get acne right in the sweaty spots on my face and upper chest area. So, I've started washing my face immediately after I run and it seems to be helping! You should try this...but regardless I hope you find something helpful soon!

{and ps. be sure to check out my blog for the chance to be my next feature runner!!}

I have really, really finicky skin too - I certainly feel your pain! I used to use really strong stuff like Proactiv, but it was too strong for my skin and it would react by being dry and red and unhappy. Lately, I have been sticking with much more natural products and I've had great success. I am a huge fan of the Aveda Tourmaline Exfoliating Cleanser (or something like that). It's really gentle and mild but has little scrubbers so you feel like you're accomplishing something. Then, I use Aveda toning mist and Aveda botanical kinetics hydrating lotion. It's really, really light but still moisturized without making me all greasy. I'm a huge fan!

Everybody's skin is different, but Tiff has battled skin issues and really likes a product called Murad. I don't know anything about it, other than she orders it and I pay for it. But she likes it a lot, so much that she got upset the other day when she spilled about 1/4 of the bottle on the bathroom counter.

I've always had a great complexion until I got pregnant. And, since I can't use anything with Salicylic Acid in it (it's in most OTC acne medicines), that pretty much only left me with the option of Proactiv. I've really liked it so far. I have WAY less breakouts and when I do get a blemish, they are here and gone within a matter of days.
