The Great Debate

I heard something on the radio today about how when a woman makes some drastic change with her hair, that means there's some bigger issue. I have to agree and disagree. I think it can be foreshadowing, or it can just mean that girlfriend got bored, saw something she liked and marched into her hair stylist and said "do it". I buy both options.

For me, I've been hemming and hahing about changing my hair for a while. Shocker: This doesn't involve me asking you if I should chop it. I've made peace with the fact that it takes me an hour to do my hair in the morning. I'm zen. (and by "zen" I mean 90% of the time it's in a ponytail/bun/braid)

No, no, the debate comes in the form of hair color.

For most of my life, I've been a bottle blonde. There was that brief stint after my mom died when I was a brunette, but, we don't talk about that. It wasn't until recently that I finally accepted my auburn roots (look, I'm funny) and owned up to red.

But now? Now I'm a teensy bit bored. And, since I'm going gray (cue tears) it's evident that I'll be either amping up the red, or highlighting for the rest of my damn life.

A few years ago, a friend of mine told me she thought I could pull off Blake Lively's color. Being too scared to go that blonde, I dismissed her idea. But now, I'm willing to reconsider.
Jennifer Morrison (aka the big ol dumb ho from House--who leaves Chase?!) has great hair--the perfect shade of natural blonde.
But what about my tried and true? (aka I'm naturally auburn)

Y'all know my love for all things Isla Fisher, including her hair.
Howver, instead of that fun and flirty strawberry blonde, mine is more the dark auburn route, more like Debra Messing--which I blame on my dad's side of the family and their darker coloring.
(photo of me taken a month ago that I hijacked from Sara)
So, dears, what to do? Beach Blonde Barbie, or Spicy Redhead? GO!
(also, this is where you tell me I look just like Isla Fisher and that if Chase was a real person and all, he'd come looking for me. Never mind that I'm married. Not the point.)

I had a baaaaaaaaad experience coloring my hair last winter/fall. I dyed my naturally dark brown hair black for the winter, thinking/expecting (how dumb of me) that the "wash out" bottle black would actually wash out as they so clearly stated. But no. It remained jet black well into the summer when you could see nasty ROOTS. Brown roots + black hair?! Gross and awkward. I am SO thankful it's FINALLY faded and there's no black residue.

The point of the story: I don't dye my hair anymore. It's not worth the up-keep!

Butttttt I will say I love Isla Fisher's hair color. So maybe that's my vote :) You're gorgeous either way!

I gotta say that I love your hair color...not many people can pull it off and have it look as good as you do! I vote to keep the sassy red;)

I wish I could pull off your beautiful red!

I'm totally voting redhead...but I'm a bottle redhead right now, so maybe I'm biased. Maybe you could add some lighter red highlights if you're bored?

Tough decision, they are all great but your hair color now is SO pretty!!!!

Oh, there's no question in my mind that you should stick with red. In terms of what red, I don't know and will leave that up to you. But red. Yes, definitely.

I LOVE both Isla and Debra's hair colors. I think you should go the vibrant red colors! It'll be cheaper because your growout won't be as drastic (so you can go longer) and it's GORGEOUS. :) I wish I had such a great hair color! LOL Mine is mousy, dirty blondish/brown/nothingness. BLAH.

I'm a natural redhead too and I always dye my hair. I get so bored! But now I'm not hating my red anymore. I even grew out my natural color for my wedding.

I think you should stay natural. People kill little animals to have your color. Ok, maybe not animals.

And yes, no one should leave Chase. Even if I can't see him, I'll close my eyes and listen to that luscious accent. ;-)

First of all, you shouldn't listen to me because I had my hair highlited for the first time ever a few months ago. So, with that said, I love love love Isla's hair color but your natural color is gorgeous! I say stick with red. :D

Hi, new follower here. I think you should go spicy redhead!

I love your hair auburn...you could rock that Isla look all day long!

Well, I think you'd look amazing as a blonde or a redhead, but personally I LOVE the red. I would absolutely kill to have your hair color! My husband is obsessed with redheads -- I try to go red every single time I get my hair done and it's always gone within a few washes. It just won't stay in my hair. So, I'm totally biased, but I love the red!!

Oh, but you have the MOST beautiful complexion! Redheads always do. And people who try to FAKE having auburn hair can never pull off the translucent skin.
I say, go bold, try to Isla color - you can TOTES pull it off! It will be a fun color for Spring. (if it ever gets here)
Or, stay true to your roots and go all Debra Messing. Your hair is GORGEOUS (just like you) and people would pay $$$ to have your hair color!

You are so lucky to have that glorious red hair! Amp it up a bit if you must, but I think red hair is beautiful and I'm envious.

PS I have a coworker with beautiful auburn hair like yours and she just did her first dye-job to cover some gray.

I am a big fan of the Auburn! I have hair envy when I see your pictures!

I always get really scared about doing anything with my hair! I always debate about it for a while, get it done, then hate it.

Girl, I am at this point in my life, and there IS a bigger issue going on -- it's called "whose body is this?" after having babies!!! I don't like my bod and I really don't like my hair, but I haven't yet found a way to get in a workout with two babies on my hips at nearly all hours. So, I'm going to dress the body I have now (swallowed some serious pride and bought clothes that actually fit and tried so hard not to look at the sizes) and today I'm going to color my hair. I can't decide between black and very light brown/caramel color. But I need a change! And yes, it's because I'm struggling with self-esteem issues! I ain't afraid to say it!!!

Super late to the party but I vote red (though you'd be awesome blonde but am with the others about minimizing ridiculous upkeep)

(And I had my own PB pillow breakdown about a year ago that involved me rocking on the couch clutching the big white cable knit pillows. Good times.)
