I'm putting together a report for an internal client on counties in southern New York and northern Pennsylvania about the loss of jobs, failing industries (i.e., mining, lumber) and how this could be improved by drilling for Marcellus Shale in the Appalachian region (have I bored you to death yet? Yes, this is my actual job).
So I'm putting together a list of counties and I remember a study that came out last year about how Scranton is getting very hard hit--i.e., no one wants to move there, people are moving out--basically, it is (was?) a dying city.
And since this is county by county map (no cities listed), I'm looking at the PA map and cannot for the life of my find Scranton. Where the crap is Scranton?! (because I have no damn idea where Scranton is in the grand scheme of things)
That's when I hear Jim's voice (no joke) "This is actually a really big deal--the client is our county, Lackawanna county--our whole county" from 'The Client' episode.
So, thank you, Jim. Thank you The Office for making me not look like an ass. Lackawanna county is now part of the report.
And yes, I realize I could have just Googled Scranton, but, it wouldn't have made this story happen, now would it?
PS. I had a teeth cleaning this morning (shiny!) and nearly fell asleep. This means that either a) I was/am insanely tired, or b) I find people poking at my teeth relaxing. I think it's a).
PPS. My dental hygienist (who I adore) was wearing Grey's Anatomy scrubs. As in, on the pocket, they had the little logo from the TV show. I did not know that Grey's made scrubs. Alright.

A bit of mr. mcdreamy?! and guess what FOUND AUTUMN mix, package to be mailed ASAP!! xxxxooo
Can I just say that I heart The Office probably more than any other show on TV. Matt and I were watching old episodes last night in fact...and one of my favorites was on! Remember when they hosted the Dundey's at Chilis...and Pam got kicked out for being drunk?? Hilarious! I'm so happy that her and Jim are still together. They are the cutest thing around and I wish they were my friends :) Sad...but true!
And yes...I know they are not real.
I just laughed outloud about your bike post. I agree with you whole heartedly. I do not believe in sharing the roads!! Why do bikers take up almost a whole lane!? I do own a bike and I think I rode it 3 times. Maybe. Now it is in the garage and the front wheel is off. :)
Just found your blog from One Preppy Day! Can't wait to read more!
Haha so funny! It just goes to show that overloads of pop culture really are beneficial (I'll keep telling myself that as I devour issue after issue of US Weekly).
Where would we be w/o television? haha!
Ha! The Office may or may not have singlehandedly scooped me up and out of postpartum depression. I think it's the former.
We watched the 3-hour marathon last night on TBS. There ain't nothing like 3 straight hours of Michael Scott doing truly awkward and embarrassing things, only to make himself still loveable. I think only Steve Carrell could pull him off. Oh, and 3 straight hours of the best chemistry on TV -- aka, Jim and Pam!!!
Love this story! I love The Office! Also, maybe we could go running together sometime, but I might need to keep working a bit before that. I'm not anywhere near your ability, but maybe someday if I keep working!
"The Office" is just good for us in all aspects, I'm convinced, but even I didn't realize it could help with shale memos!
And can I pause for a moment for an OMG PAM AND JIM ARE FINALLY GETTING MARRIED!! freakout moment? Whew, ok, now I'm better. I feel like my actual close friends are getting married. Yes, I realize that sounds a little (a lot) sad.
Sadly, you're not the only one who has to research the Marcellus Shale... I've got pages and pages on the darn thing - since my company relies on gaswell sites for business. Gahhh. Maybe this weekend we can eat candy corn and swap stories about our super-exciting careers. (I kid, I kid :)
I hear Jim talking to me all the time too. He's saying Kristin...I love you. The hubs knows. He's ok with it. Ah ha
